Pop-up Globe is excited to offer exclusive workshops and tours for schools attending the matinee productions. The programmes are facilitated by our highly trained and knowledgeable staff to enhance your students’ experience of Pop-up Globe and the production. Prices quoted are per student, accompanying teachers are free. Sessions are available before or after the school matinee you are attending from 9am-10am and 2:30pm-3:30pm.

All the World’s a Stage: an acting workshop

Our Teaching Artists have an extensive understanding of performing in the Pop-up Globe playhouse and will take your class through an active exploration of the space using text from the play you have come to see. Your students will get the chance to perform on the stage, gaining a fresh perspective on the scale of delivery, and new insights into the world of the play.

Cry Havoc!: a stage combat workshop

Alexander Holloway from the New Zealand Stage Combat School and Pop-up Globe’s Head of Stage Combat and Special Effects is the only teaching artist in New Zealand with a degree in stage combat. Successful fight scenes require actors to work together in a team, discipline, body and spatial awareness. In this workshop, Alexander will teach sequences that the students can practice and then perform.

Tours:

Inside Pop-up Globe: a tour of the playhouse

Travel back in time to the 17th century with a special guided tour of Pop-up Globe. Your guide will unlock the secrets of this unique performance space, explore history of the playhouses Shakespeare wrote for and explain the changes, modifications and innovations made over four seasons. You will have access to areas of the theatre normally restricted to the public and learn about the research and design process involved with re-creating everything from the sound effects through to the scenery.

Group limit: 20 students per tour (can run two tours concurrently)

A Most Rare Fashion: a tour of wardrobe

The Head of our Wardrobe Department, Chantelle Gerrard, will take you into the Pop-up Globe wardrobe, with access to the work room and costumes from previous shows. Chantelle is a qualified design teacher and will share the challenge of designing and constructing authentic Jacobean costumes and maintaining them through the season. Chantelle has designed the costumes for this season’s production of Measure for Measure and is an industry expert with some unique experience, including working on Game of Thrones.
