5 Day School Holiday Course

Are you ready for Boot Camp these school holidays? Ready to jump in and learn to dance, flex your voice, work your stage combat skills and hone your acting skills? Join this 5-day intensive on the Pop-up Globe stage to give your Shakespeare muscles a full work out!

Students aged 14 to 24 will have the unique opportunity to learn from our expert teaching artists in their respective fields on the stage at Pop-up Globe. Students on this course will attend movement classes with choreographer Julia Guthrey, work on their voices with actor Jessica Loudon, and flex their acting muscles on a range of Shakespearean texts with actor Amy Usherwood.

Our Tutors: 

Julia Guthrey – Movement

Julia Guthrey graduated in 2006 from NASDA in Christchurch, with a BA in Musical Theatre. In 2015 she attended RADA in London and gained a Masters degree in physical theatre. Her performance highlights include Saturday Night Fever, Grease (Ben McDonald), Alice in Wonderland (Imagine Youth), Poverty & Muse (One Man Banned), Rapunzel, Guys ‘n’ Dolls (The Court Theatre), Ship of Fools – Mixed Ability (A Different Light), The Great Storm of 1868 (Oamaru Living History), Dick Whittington & His Cat (UK schools tour), The Merry Wives Windsor (UK Outdoor Shakespeare tour) and Short Films with Solid Rock Media Group. Julia is also a choreographer, dance teacher and singing coach. Julia performed in Macbeth and The Comedy of Errors in season three for Pop-up Globe and was the assistant choreographer for season four, and assistant director on the debut youth theatre production of The Two Gentlemen of Verona in 2019.

  

Jess Loudon – Voice

Jess graduated from the Conservatory Program at Atlantic Theatre Company in NYC in 2012. Her Australian theatre credits since then include: Measure for Measure and The Servant of Two Masters (Sport For Jove), The Dream (Bell Shakespeare), The Players (Bell Shakespeare), Grin and Tonic Schools Tour, The Women (New Theatre), Vice (King St Theatre), The Big Funk (Suspicious Woman Productions), Youth Monologues (Digi Youth Arts), Machina (La Boite), The Taming of the Shrew (Brisbane Shakespeare Festival).

Jess has also performed extensively Off-Broadway. Her Off-Broadway credits: Rhinoceros (Atlantic Stage 2), Belgrade Trilogy (Whitelisted Theatre Company), The Comedy of Errors (EBE Ensemble), Women and Wallace; Throwing Your Voice (Atlantic Black Box Theatre), Angry Young Women in Low Rise Jeans with High Class Issues (KADM Productions), This is for You (The Bower Group).

Jess produced and performed in The Works of William Shakespeare by Chicks for the Sydney Fringe Festival 2018 with an all female cast and crew, and performed in season four at Pop-up Globe in Richard III and The Taming of the Shrew. She has been a lead tutor on the Pop-up Globe Youth Theatre’s April school holiday programmes and term 2 and 3 Revels’ Ensemble class.

 

Amy Usherwood – Acting

Amy Usherwood grew up in Dunedin and is a 2007 NIDA acting graduate. Whilst at NIDA, she played

Juliet in Romeo & Juliet, directed by Gale Edwards and Paulinka in Tony Kushner’s Bright Room Called Day, directed by Anthony Skuse. Her Television and film credits include Emma Franklin on Shortland Street (2012-2014) and Louise Hillary in Hillary, both for TVNZ. She recently played Joy in Ladies In Black, directed by Bruce Beresford. Her theatre credits include Hermione in The Winter’s Tale (Wellington Summer Shakespeare), Helen in Sweet Phoebe (Basement Theatre) Chick in Crimes Against the Heart (Old Fitzroy Theatre, Sydney) and for Sport For Jove (Sydney) she has played Mercutio in Romeo & Juliet, Sebastian in The Tempest, Banquo in Macbeth, Titania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Emilia in Othello, The Pedant in Taming of the Shrew, Leonie in Away and various characters in No End of Blame, all directed by Damien Ryan. Amy performed in season four at Pop-up Globe, in Richard III and The Taming of the Shrew and she teaches on the Senior Players and Adults Beginners classes at Pop-up Globe. She is a proud member of MEAA.
