Pop-up Globe – Wigs and Maintenance Tour (Perth)

Summary of the Role

This role is responsible for washing, setting and dressing the show wigs, helping the dressers with wigs pre-show if needed, dressing shows if needed during the week and maintaining the cleanliness and organisation of costume areas.

This role is primarily a wigs and maintenance role including running repairs and ongoing maintenance of wigs, shoes, head coverings, laundry and costume maintenance. The role reports to the Head of Touring Wardrobe and Deputy Head of Wardrobe and has the possibility for touring.

Details

This is a contracted role for a tour in Perth from the end of September 2019 and will include weekend and evening hours in an indoor and outdoor environment.

A good sense of humour, being able to problem solve and think on your feet is essential, as well as being able to keep cool under pressure.

An eye for detail and high working standards is required to maintain wigs and costumes that will last an extensive season.

The job involves lifting, carrying and a lot of movement as well as stair climbing. Solid sewing skills and quick repair knowledge is required for this position. A driver’s licence is not required, but would be helpful.  Local knowledge for outsourcing repairs and acquiring sundry items would also be an advantage.

Competitive theatre rates will be offered.

Principal Duties:

  • Maintain wigs for each show (set and dress)
  • Wash wigs during the season
  • Advise Dressers if needed on wig related matters
  • When Dressing: Ensure all costumes are and set for the acting company by the half hour call
  • When Dressing: Run the assigned dressing plot for each show worked including quick changes and assisting actors with costume pieces
  • Quality check all costumes and perform alterations/maintenance
  • Make running costume repairs as necessary
  • Maintain costumes, shoes, wigs and accessories, including regular washing, steaming, ironing and dry cleaning of all costumes
  • Note down costume repairs and maintenance in the relevant place
  • Monitor levels of required cleaning products and makeup supplies
  • Repair costumes and carry out maintenance as required by the Head of Touring Wardrobe
  • Check equipment and inform Head of Touring Wardrobe of any repairs needed
  • Pack shows in and out in each venue
  • Be a champion of Pop-up Globe, representing it in a professional manner, supporting its philosophy and vision at all times.

  • Wig training

  • Dressing experience

The role of Dresser is responsible for pre-show prep, dressing the cast, post-show clean-up, laundry, ongoing costume maintenance and maintaining the cleanliness and organisation of costume areas. Running repairs and ongoing maintenance of wigs, shoes, head coverings and costumes are shared between all dressers. The role reports to the Head of Touring Wardrobe and the Deputy Head of Wardrobe.
